Happy New Year my sisters and brothers!
I hope the holiday season was rewarding and filled with quality family and friends time. I spent Thanksgiving with my youngest son in Wilmington, NC and Christmas in Cortland, NY with my older two children and three grandsons. The attached photo was taken at the trampoline park. I earned serious credibility in front of my youngest grandson with my jumping abilities! I was also able to spend a nice amount of time with my friends, many of whom are still active teachers.
Our new board member, Kathy McHugh, has been busy working at procuring a wonderful location for our June General Meeting at the Hopshire Farms & Brewery. Save the June 18th date and hope to see you there. Another board member, Tom Gath, will be playing for a portion of our general meeting and that is a real treat.
Please help NYSUT make public service retirement fair for everyone and visit Home - FixTier6.org to join the fight. Please consider contributing to VOTE-COPE using pension deduction. For questions or to request a VOTE COPE form visit NYSUT’s homepage (or call/text me at 607-745-3515 and I will mail you a form) Pension deduction is the easiest way to continue your contributions in retirement and it costs NYSUT the least amount of money to set-up for the long term. Nothing would be more valuable and appreciated than you answering the call in this way.
Please have a blessed 2024, stay healthy and safe.
In solidarity,
Vicki Darrow

Hello my sisters and brothers!
Hoping this newsletter finds you well and ready to begin the holiday season. We here at RC 45 have been busy this fall preparing for and hosting our October General Meeting at the Classic Car Museum in Norwich. We considered the meeting a great success and enjoyed our time with many of our members from all over the RC #45 region.
I am seeing more progress regarding our FIX TIER SIX campaign which will require all hands on deck. The goal is to make public service retirement fair for everyone. Visit www.fixTier6.org to join the fight. At our fall meeting several of us increased our VOTE-COPE contributions by $6 monthly. The idea is to FIX TIER 6 with $6. Please consider contributing using pension deduction for your VOTE-COPE contribution.
We are currently looking for a location for our spring General Meeting, feel free to send me some suggestions for locations in your area.
Please enjoy your holiday season, stay healthy and safe.

Vicki Darrow

New for this year, our RC #45 scholarship, available to graduating seniors with a parent or grandparent in RC #45, had several applicants. Since our scholarship fund has had a very successful year in raising money for scholarships through raffles and voluntary contributions by our most generous retirees, The Scholarship Committee had previously decided to give 2 scholarships, each valued at $250.

NYSUT RC #45 has been working this summer to plan a fun fall get together for you at the Northeast Classic Car Museum in Norwich. The committee has planned a delicious meal from a local restaurant called Wild Owl. For $25 you will get to meet and visit with other retirees, have a nice lunch and then tour the largest classic car museum in the Northeast with over 200 classic vehicles on display. Visit Home - Northeast Classic Car Museum for more information on this wonderful treasure.

NYSUT Retiree Council 45 Holds Annual Meeting
The NYSUT Retiree Council 45 held its annual meeting on June 20, 2023, at the CNY Living History Museum in Cortland, New York. The meeting was well-attended by 24 members, who heard updates on a variety of topics, including the upcoming regional conference, the Fix Tier 6 campaign, and the Cortland County Office of the Aging.
Mark Padgett, the NYSUT Retiree Services Consultant for RC#11 and RC#45, gave an update on the upcoming regional conference, which will be held on September 13, 2023. He encouraged members to attend and help reach the goal of 100 attendees. Padgett also discussed the future of NYSUT's retiree newsletter, which will soon become an opt-in newsletter.
